Soloist

For twenty-years from the summer of 1999 until the winter of 2019 I have referred to my musical skill set as “singer, sax and harp player”. I had fun times playing clarinet in elementary and high school orchestra and I even played flute for a time in some early rock solos. My favorite woodwind overall is the saxophone. I primarily play tenor and alto but occasionally I will break out the soprano.

Harmonica or “harp” playing became an instant passion for me in 1999. My band “NewRelic” had just formed and it quickly became obvious that many of the rock songs we were playing had signature solos that we were not covering. Typically these solos were either saxophone or harmonica and before long I was playing both.

In this new year of 2020 and upon entering my second twenty-years of “band life” I became interested in violin/fiddle playing. From this point on I refer to myself as a soloist because I’m never quite sure what I’ll be playing. Maybe banjo soon?
